The shortening winter seasons have already had an impact on the tourist industry, with operators cancelling tours last year due to an unusually snow-free November.2 million in 2010, according to Statistics Finland. The rise followed national airline Finnair dramatically expanding its routes between Europe and Asia and promoting Finland as a stopover hub.But Lapland is also the homeland of the indigenous reindeer-herding Sami people, who protest that some in the tourist industry spread offensive stereotypes about Sami people and seek to profit from their ancient culture. The Sami also object to the growing number of "igloo" hotels in the region, which are a non-Lapland tradition borrowed from elsewhere in the Arctic. Last year, the Sami Parliament issued guidelines for "ethically responsible" behaviour from tour operators and visitors in order to preserve Sami culture.At its centre, a wooden, fairytale-esque cabin houses Santas grotto -- since the 1980s, tourism chiefs have set out to market the main town, Rovaniemi, as the worlds official home of Santa Claus. The regional council recently laid out a four-year plan for making tourism more environmentally and socially friendly, while still encouraging it to grow, she added."We are very dependent on flight traffic," Loiro, from the regional council, tells AFP.Botswana-born Beets and his Finnish wife Veronika set up Bearhill Husky, close to Rovaniemi, in 2012, offering dog-sled safaris through the Lapland forest.

And a recurring grievance is the popularity of accommodation-sharing site Airbnb, says Satu Loiro, Lapland Regional Councils senior tourism advisor.The parliament proposal says the igloos risk creating a "mongrel" and homogenised culture in the region, and suggests instead that tourist providers build accommodation relevant to Laplands history, such as the Sami "goahti" -- a teepee-like wooden tent traditionally used by reindeer herders."If, for example, one person refrains from wearing Sami dress because they do not want to be photographed by tourists, that is one person too many," the proposal warned."Super visit, Santa was very kind," Jeremie tells AFP.Some 45,000 Chinese tourists visited Lapland in 2018 -- four times more than in 2015.Local media regularly carry stories of tourists soiling the pristine wilderness with rubbish and empty beer cans, or of hordes of visitors causing disturbances in town. Another lucrative market, the Middle East, is also catching on."Almost every day there are people coming to the Sami area asking Where can I see the shamans, where are the Sami witches?" Tiina Sanila-Aikio, president of Finlands Sami Parliament, tells AFP.Investment from China Hotelier Tian Zhang, who moved from China to northern Finland 17 years ago, recently became the first foreign investor in Laplands hotel scene along with a group of her friends from home.Sami representatives claim the dogs, which are not a native Lapland tradition, distress the reindeer which freely roam the forests.Otherworldly Arctic landscapesEvery passing winter brings record visitors to Lapland including soaring numbers of Chinese in recent years, but also much-needed revenue.

Mr Khan has been asked to prove his allegations, failing which he may face suspension, according to AAP insiders.His supporters, waiting outside, protested his resignation.It was only two years ago that Mr Kejriwal had led the AAP to an electrifying victory in Delhi Assembly elections in which his party won 67 of the 70 seats." But 46-year-old  Mr Vishwas offered no comments and simply retweeted Mr Kejriwal. The PAC was held at Mr Kejriwal’s Fragstaff Road residence and Mr Khan attended the meet briefly and left midway. It is believed that in the PAC meeting, majority of the members were of the view that disciplinary action should be taken against Mr Khan who went public with his allegations rather than talking to the party leadership. Mr Vishwas’ supporters see in Mr Khan’s accusations an attempt to stall any move to assign him any important position in the party.  On Monday morning, Mr Kejriwal warned leaders for working against the party. Standing by what he had said earlier, Mr Khan spoke to reporters and made further allegations against Mr Vishwas calling him an "RSS agent".  Since then, two lawmakers have quit AAP and joined the BJP, which also snatched the Rajouri Garden seat last month in a by-election.

There are fears that after the party’s successive defeats in assembly elections in Punjab and Goa and then the Delhi civic polls, more disillusioned lawmakers may abandon the Aam Aadmi Party.It was also the first occasion when Mr Kejriwal visited Mr Sisodia’s house after taking charge as the Delhi chief minister.  Mr Khan is known to be close to Sanjay Singh and leaders like Dilip Pandey and Brijesh Pathak, who took the fall for the party’s defeat in the civic polls and have resigned. He drove to Mr Sisodia’s residence for a two-hour meeting before sending him to Mr Vishwas’ Delhi residence along with another senior party leader Sanjay Singh, who is said to be of the anti-Vishwas faction.. Mr Viswas was reportedly assured of action against Mr Khan. They are enemies of the party. No one can separate us. They should refrain. Some people are trying to drive a wedge between us. He said Mr Kejriwal was  surrounded by "yes men" and had on their advice, blamed electronic voting machines or EVMs for the defeat.
